Well, Here it is!  The research you have been waiting for:  The 2015 Private Duty Caregiver Recruiting Study.

Last November, I was speaking at the 2014 Home Care Association of America conference in Kansas City. The buzz around the convention was all about the difficulty agency owners are having in recruiting enough caregivers the meet the needs of a growing home care business.  As soon as I got back, I opened the 2008 Caregiver Recruiting Survey, updated the questions, and launched the 2015 survey.

The 2015 National Caregiver Recruiting Survey conducted by Leading Home Care … a Tweed Jeffries company and Caregiver Quality Assurance, and Sponsored by HomeTrak shows some amazing results about what works and what doesn’t in recruiting new caregivers to your home care company. This special report, prepared for our clients, customers, members, and readers, will give you a detailed look at the most powerful methods to find the caregivers you need to grow your business.

The Top Ten Recruiting Techniques

When considering the best practices for recruiting caregivers, we need to consider several criteria.  Do you want to look at the techniques most frequently used by other companies in the industry? Do you want to look at the techniques that are most effective for bringing in large numbers of applicants? Or, do you want to look at the techniques that are most effective in bringing in high quality applicants?

When we asked the CEOs of leading home care companies, the answer was pretty clear.  Home care leaders want high quality caregivers. Therefore, we had to design the survey to find out which techniques home care companies are using to recruit caregivers, but more importantly we had to find out which techniques are more effective in recruiting “High Quality Caregivers”.  That’s what makes this study different from any other reports on home care recruiting.

Here is a quick peak at the top ten most effective techniques for finding high quality caregivers:

  1. Four year schools of nursing

  2. Faith Based recruiting
  3. CNA and HHA schools
  4. Internet Recruiting
  5. Staffing Companies
  6. Professional Recruiter
  7. Training your own CNAs
  8. Direct Mail
  9. Clients and Families
  10. Community Colleges
  11. Employee Referral Program

That Will Never Work!

Now, I know what many of you are thinking, looking at this list and saying, “I tried that before and it didn’t work”, or “That won’t work”.  Well, guess what.  The data are very clear;  these techniques do work if they are executed with excellence. They key is not the technique; it’s the implementation. It’s the headlines.  It’s the body copy.  It’s the call to action.
