How serious is the Caregiver Recruiting and Retention Crisis?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), four of the top six fastest growing jobs in America will be in home health care, hospice, and private pay in-home care.  In the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by BLS, here are the top six occupations for new jobs between 2014 and 2024:

  1. Personal Care aides – 458,100 new jobs, median annual pay – $21,920
  2. Registered Nurses – 429,300 new jobs, median annual pay – $68,450
  3. Home Health Aides – 348,400 new jobs, median annual pay – $22,600
  4. Food Preparation and Food Service – 343,500 – Pay – $19,440
  5. Retail Sales – 314,200 new jobs, Pay – $22,680
  6. Nursing Assistants – 262,000 jobs,  Pay – $26,590
The Crisis Continues

Last week I was in Brentwood, TN for our Private Duty Field Trip.  Twelve home care leaders from across the country to visit Senior Solutions Home Care, a member of our Top 5% Mastermind Group. Kunu Kaushal, the CEO of Senior Solutions shared the details of how he grew his business from zero to over 8,000 hour per week in seven years.

The biggest topic of discussion among all of the participants was caregiver recruiting and retention.  Two years ago when we visited with Kunu, the hot topics were sales, marketing, and office operations. Today, those issues are still important but caregiver recruiting has popped to the top of everyone’s consciousness. Every company who participated in our Field Trip is struggling with finding and keeping caregivers.

Conquering the Crisis

While it’s taking longer than I had hoped, my new book, Conquering the Crisis: Proven Solutions for Caregiver Recruiting and Retention will be out in days.  The publishers preview copy will be here this week. We’ll review and approve it, and the books will be printed.  If you have not yet ordered your pre-publication copy,  you’ll want to do that now.  You’ll reserve your own personally autographed hard cover book at 40% off the publishers list price, and we’ll throw in the shipping and handling.  You can’t beat that deal for the most complete, highly researched body of knowledge on the caregiver crisis in home care and hospice.

As far as I can tell, no one in the home care industry has put as much time and energy into researching this crisis, interviewing CEOs of the fastest growing companies in the industry, and putting together proven solutions that you can begin to apply right now.

Don’t delay. Order your pre-publication copy today, and I’ll personally sign if for you.
