What do you think Home Care will look like in the year 2030?
This week I’ve been putting the finishing touches on three presentations I’ll be doing in the next couple of weeks on “Home Care 2023: The Factors Affecting the future of Home Care.” I’ve been looking into my crystal ball to see what I can see about the future. And, I’ve been going back over the data from the past two years Future of Home Care Studies that we conducted in conjunction with AxisCare. We are also getting ready to launch the 2026 Future of Home Care Study.
This week, I’m presenting a pre-conference online workshop for the Home Care franchise company Seniors Helping Seniors. I’ll be speaking twice at their upcoming annual conference in Nashville in a few weeks.
Then in October, I’ll be in Pearl River, NY to speak for the New York State Association of Health Care Providers. I’ll be presenting Home Care 2030 as their opening keynote presentation, and then doing a breakout session on Scaling Your Home Care Business with Data Oriented Decision Making.
And finally, I’ll be in Dallas, TX on October 20th to present this program for the Home Care Association of America annual leadership conference. The presentation will be with my friend and colleague, Josh Lawson, who is the Vice President for Growth at AxisCare. Josh, Kendra Pulliam, Vice President for Marketing at AxisCare, and I have worked closely together for the past two years crafting and implementing the Future of Home Care Study.

Three Things to Focus on For The Future
While there are loads of data in the research report for us to analyze and synthesize, there are three things that came out for me as I was preparing these presentations.
The first is Systems. Lessons from a dozen years leading The Top 5% Mastermind Group at the Home Care CEO Forumtaught me that tip tier Home Care leaders are systems thinkers. Owners who really want to grow their business and get ready for the future need to think about systems, and put systems in place to streamline their business, and to operate efficiently and effectively. Systems are about consistency and repetition.
The second big thing is Technology. The future of Home Care rests with technology, and the results of last year’s study showed that industry leaders are thinking about AI – Artificial Intelligence – as the leading element of technology. I’ve just been doing some research now how AI will be applied in Home Care.
The third big thing is understanding Opportunities for Growth. The 273 Home Care company leaders who responded to last year’s survey helped us see more clearly the greatest opportunities for growth in the coming years:
- Doing a much better job with our current services in our current marketplace
- Expanding into New Geographic Markets
- Adding New Revenue Streams
- Adding New Payer Sources

AI Takes the Lead in Technology Applied to Home Care
Industry thought leaders have pointed us toward the potential impact that Artificial Intelligence will have on Home Care in the future. We’ve been looking into current capabilities of AI, and how AI will be used in the not-too-distant future. Here are the top applications we have uncovered.
- Client and Caregiver Matching
- Scheduling and Workforce Optimization
- Recruiting and Retention, and optimizing the Recruiting funnel
- Care Plan Personalization
- Administrative Automation.
We are continuing to explore these various applications of AI, and we’ll learn more as we launch the 2026 Future of Home Care Study in just a few weeks.

Join me at a Home Care Association Conference
After three decades in Home Care, I am more convinced than ever that associations are the grass roots of our industry. If you want to be among the industry leaders, you need to attend and be actively engaged with your state or national Home Care Association. If your agency is a franchise, attend and be engaged in your annual franchise conference.
