Back in February 2017, we wrote about the Death of Digital Disruptor Home Hero.  Kyle Hill, the Founder and CEO of Home Hero had written an extensive article describing their journey in building the company and their decision to call it quits.  In June of 2017, we wrote that Home Hero had relaunched itself as an Integrative Medicine Company called Harvey.

This week, we learned that a new digital home care company, Family Directed, has acquired the assets and technology of Home Hero and is bringing the business back to life.  The new company has been started by Kiel Dowlin, former Vice President of Strategy and Development for Home Hero.  Dowlin has partnered with William Yarmuth, Founder and Chairman of publicly traded Almost Family, a large home health and private pay home care company based here in Louisville, KY that merged with LHC Group in 2018. LHC Group, based on Lafayette, Louisiana, also provides home health, hospice, and private pay home care services.

Family Directed has launched a new web site describing their direct-to-consumer model of providing caregiver to clients as either a 1099 sub-contractor or as a household employee.

We’ll continue to monitor the progress of Family Directed and the Other Digital Disruptors in the private pay home care space.

Artificial Intelligence in Home Care

I've been thinking about the impact of AI on Home Care. Three things happened this week that have totally shifted my awareness and thinking about Artificial Intelligence. First, I've been reading a new book that was recommended to me called "Reshuffle" by Sangeet Paul Choudary. He's a senior fellow at UC Berkley, and a strategic advisor…
