What’s Your Vision for your home health agency, hospice, or private duty home care company?

If you could wave your magic wand, what would yout agency look like in five years? How big will it be? Who will it serve? What will make your agency distinct from other agencies in your local marketplace?

One of the core elements of my Strategic Focus Process is Vision.  I define Strategic Focus as … “having a clear vision for the future, having a strategy to get there, and having the talent to execute with excellence.”

I’m writing to you today from south Florida, where I’m getting ready for several upcoming keynote speeches and consulting engagements.  When I come to this state, I can’t help but think about the person who put central Florida on the map … Walt Disney.  It was because of his vision that Disneyland in California was created, and because of the success of Disneyland, Walt came to Florida and created Walt Disney World with The Magic Kingdom and Epcot Center.  Disney’s Vision was a gift from the founder.

Vision in Home Care and Hospice

What role does Vision play in home health and hospice.  A while back I sat down and did some calculations and I figured that I have led the strategic planning and thinking process for well over 500 different organizations in home health care, hospice, and private duty home care.  If there is one principle that I have seen applied over and over again, it is the value of a leader with a clear vision.  When the CEO brings a clear vision for the future, the agency prospers.

One of the most effective ways for a leader to create a clear vision for her or his agency is to lead their team through a process of Visioneering.  Bring your top leaders together for a day.  Have an outside facilitator lead them through imagining what your agency could be like in five years, what it will take to get there, the barriers to overcome, and how you will know you have arrived.  It is absolutely amazing what happens when a team of leaders comes together to craft a common vision.

Your Vision Summary Worksheet

One of the tools we use in our Strategic Focus process is the Vision Summary Worksheet.  This is a one-page sheet you can use to summarize your vision for the future, a description of your vision, your key visiting critical indicator, you specific goals for 5 years, 3 years, and 1 year, and the actions you will take this year to achieve your vision.

Let Us Lead Your Next Strategic Visioning Session

If you would like to have a clear vision for the future, let us help you.  As I said earlier, I have facilitated the strategic thinking process for over 500 difference organizations in home health, hospice, and private duty, and I’d be happy to work with you and your team.  Take a look at our Strategic Focus Page, and then give me a call at 502-339-0653 to set up a time to discuss your agency and your specific needs.
