| I’ve been thinking a lot about Professional Connections and Relationships. This past week I’ve been reading a new book by my long-time friend and professional speaking colleague, Dr. Nido Qubein. Nido is the President of High Point University in High Point North Carolina, and his new book is Extraordinary Transformation: An entrepreneurial Blueprint for Leaders who seek Transformational Growth of any Organization. I’ll share more insights from his book in a blog post, but this morning I was thinking about a lesson that Nido learned from his mother. Nido was born in the country of Lebanon, in the middle east, and came to America at the age of 16 with $50.00 in his pocket and could not speak the English language. He settled in North Carolina, went to a junior college, got a job as a church youth leader, and went on to graduate from High Point College. Nido recognized the importance of communication and language. He mastered English and went on to become a tremendously successful professional speaker, author, and serial entrepreneur. He and some other investors started a bank which was then sold to BB&T, and he became Chairman of the Board of the Great Harvest Bread Company. In 2005, Nido was asked to become President of High Point University. Over the next 19 years he has totally transformed HPU into “America’s Premier Life Skills University.” As a small boy, Nido’s mother told him …“If you want to be a great person, Nido, you must first walk side by side, hand in hand with great people.” Nido has translated that into an amazing professional life and is leaving a lasting legacy at HPU. He says …“Who you spend time with is who you become.” Let’s carry that lesson forward into Home Care. Who you spend time with in Home Care is who you become. If you want to spend time with amazing Home Care leaders, consider becoming a member of a Home Care CEO Mastermind Group. |
