Would you agree that Home Care as an industry is going through turbulent times?

Our business is not just changing more rapidly than ever before. We are experiencing unexpected disruption that is reshaping all of post-acute healthcare, and especially what we are doing in Home Care.

Over these past several months, I’ve been digging more deeply into the results of our 2026 Future of Home Care Study, conducted by Leading Home Care and published by AxisCare. I’m particularly interested in the top trends that are hindering the growth of Home Care companies, and how these trends are contributing to the turbulence.

  • The rapidly rising costs of staff, supplies, and services is putting pressure on margins, and is causing companies to raise prices to consumers. We are reaching a point were fewer and fewer consumer can afford the price of in-home care.
  • The state of the economy, disrupted by geo-political turbulence around the world is placing extensive pressure on Home Care leaders.
  • The caregiver shortage has been the top pain point for Home Care leaders for two decades, and now other labor market conditions are creating new disruptions for us to contend with.
  • Government regulation has been a major issue for years, and now with the recent revelations about massive fraud and abuse in state Medicaid programs, and to some extent even in the VA, is causing great concern that government regulators will over react.
  • The rapid consolidation of the Home Care industry with the penetration of Private Equity investment is creating increasing competition from more sophisticated competitors.

These are just a few of the disruptions that are creating turbulence in Home Care. How are you and your team preparing to deal with these disruptions to your business?

How Leaders are Transcending the Turbulence of an AI-Transformed Home Care World

As you know, I am always studying that forces and trends that are shaping Home Care. I do that by conducting research studies, by reading, and by interviewing thought leaders inside and outside Home Care.

My friend and professional speaking colleague, Scott McKain, CSP, CPAE, just released his latest book, “Beyond Distinction: How Leaders Transcend the Turbulence of an AI-Transformed World.” I’ve known Scott for over 30 years as we’ve shared leadership roles in the National Speakers Association, and the NSA Foundation. I’ve followed his work since his first book, “All Business is Show Business.”

This newest book by Scott captured my attention with some new insights that are really relevant to my work with Home Care leaders. He said …

“We are no longer in an age of rapid, incremental change. We are in a time of turbulence where disruption can happen overnight.” He said, “Turbulence is the sum of change now occurring with …
* Unprecedented speed
* Unpredictable direction
* Simultaneous disruptions
* Exponential impact.”

As a Home Care CEO, what are you doing to Develop the capacity of your leadership team to …

*Embrace a “next disruption” mindset
*Develop a clear vision for the future
*Build a culture of continuous innovation
*Leverage AI without losing the human touch
*Measure what truly matters

As I have had conversations with Scott over the years, and have followed his progress in developing new insights to help companies get ahead of the competition, I have recognized that these principles have huge potential for us in Home Care.

Let’s have a conversation about the new thinking required of Home Care CEOs to grow your business and get ready for the future.
